September of 1916: A group of Italian-Americans got together for the sole purpose of organizing a Fraternal Society for the mutual benefit and welfare of its members and people. The organization was first formed by Francesco DeFalco, Giovanni Buono and Francesco Buono. Their first order of business was to secure a charter for the lodge that was granted by the State of California.
January 1917: Giovanni Buono was elected President at the first official meeting with Francesco Buono elected as secretary. They named their new lodge, Fratellanza Garibaldina Mutua Benificenza e Sorcorso di San Diego. After 15 successful and enjoyable years the lodge voluntarily surrendered its charter and became affiliated with the National Order of the Sons of Italy in America.
April 1932: A new charter was granted by the Supreme and Grand Lodge of the Order Sons of Italy in America and the lodge was officially instituted as the Lodge Fratellanza Garibaldina Lodge No. 1627, Order Sons of Italy in America, San Diego, CA. Worthy Grand Venerable I. Iannarone, officiating.
2008: This year we will observe our 76th anniversary. We invite you to join with us in our celebration. |
